Highland Park is located in the northeastern part of Oakland County, with the Clinton River forming its western border. The city has a total area of approximately 3.7 square miles, with 3.6 square miles of it being land and 0.1 square miles of it being water. Highland Park is bordered by the cities of Highland Township to the north, Southfield to the east, Detroit to the southeast, Ferndale to the south, and Madison Heights to the west.
